Industrial Robots

Industrial Robots, as the name suggests, are designed to be used for industrial applications and these applications can be as simple as picking a manufactured part up, for example, a candy bar in a confectionary maker’s production line, and putting it in a box. This is probably one of the most common examples of an industrial robot in use, but the range of applications is practically endless, from pick and place, loading production machines, putting boxes on pallets, welding, spray painting, even making coffees! These are all the things an Industrial Robot arm can do.

Collaborative Industrial Robots

Recently a new breed of industrial robots has been developed, these are the Collaborative industrial robots. Traditionally Industrial robots are kept safe from people with strong, monitored safety fences. Robots will do whatever they are programmed to do, day in day out, repetitive to tenths of millimeters, and have no real idea of the fluid environment, so if somebody stands in the robot’s path, they are likely to be severely injured. All of the guarding involved with using an industrial robot is expensive, often more than the robot itself, not to mention the amount of space it takes up!

Collaborative robots are still industrial robots, but with 1 major difference, they CAN operate right next to people safely. The robots use very smart software and they know when they have touched something that isn’t meant to be there and stop instantly, enabling them to work right next to people.

There are several manufacturers of these Collaborative type robots, all with inherent designs to make them safe alongside people. Usually these robots have a relatively small payload (the weight it can pick up) usually no more than 10 kg.

Universal Robots

One of the most popular, simple to use and effective collaborative robots on the market are the Universal Robots, who builds three models of robots, UR3 (3 kg payload), UR5 (5 kg payload) and the UR10 (10 kg payload). Universal Robots are built in Denmark and are distributed across Australia by Mobile Automation.

The Universal Robots have 5 unique selling points that puts them above other collaborative robot distributers.

Fast Set-up

Unpacking the robot, mounting it and programming the first simple tasks typically takes less than an hour, even for untrained operators. As experience by Universal Robots customers, the average time it takes to carry out a complete set-up is just half a day.

Easy Programming

Operators with no programming experience can quickly program a Universal Robot, thanks to its clear, in-built 3D visualization. All the operator must do is move the robotic arm to the desired waypoints or touch the arrow keys on the easy-to-use tablet.

Flexible Deployment

In order to meet challenging demands and stay competitive within the market, production set-ups must be versatile and flexible, and universal robots have the robots that are just that. The lightweight robotic arms are easily moved and re-deployed to a new process, allowing the automation of almost any manual task within your production line.

Collaborative & Safe Robots

Universal Robots are the frontrunners of collaborative robots with more than 80% of their robotic arms in operation are working right alongside humans, without any safety guards.

Fastest Payback in the Industry

Universal Robots collaborative robot arms have an average payback time of only 195 days, which is the fastest in the industry. Simply because there is no additional payments that are traditionally associated with automation, such as protective fencing and external programming.
